A hot topic on the subject of gold and silver bullion is how to safely store it so that you have unrestricted access to it.
My preferred method is to store it at my house. You basically have two options when taking this approach.
The first option is to hide in plain sight.
A friend of mine uses a 100-ounce silver bar as a door stopper. He simply painted it black and uses it as a door stopper. This approach may seem foolish to some people, but his opinion is that if he leaves it out in plain sight, there will be no reason to call attention to it (so far, he has been correct). Unfortunately, this approach has its limitations. Specifically, if you have bullion coins or other forms of Gold and Silver you can’t use them the same way my friend uses his 100 ounce silver bar. If this seems too far fetched for you, then the next option would be a better choice…
The second option is to store it in a safe.
The challenge with this option is that when someone breaks into your house, the first thing they look for is a safe. With this in mind, you have to make sure that the safe that you buy is securely attached to the frame work in your house so it’s not easily removed. You don’t want to have a situation where they just steal your safe and take it to a remote location to open it at their leisure.
The best option for using a safe in your house is to get a wall safe that you can cover with a picture hanging on the wall. This accomplishes the goal of safe storage without attracting the attention of the would-be thieves.
